Today we gather to celebrate the people who shape every other profession in the world. 5th September is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan — a scholar who rose from a humble family to become a world-famous philosopher and the second President of India. When his students wished to celebrate his birthday, he asked them to observe it as Teachers' Day instead. That one sentence tells you what a true teacher is: someone who turns even an honour into a gift for others.

Friends, think about it — every doctor, every engineer, every officer and every scientist began in the same place: a classroom, in front of a teacher. Teaching is the only profession whose measure of success is that the student goes further than the teacher. Our teachers correct our mistakes without mocking them, they repeat a lesson ten times without complaining, and they see something in us long before we see it in ourselves.
